Wright Dog Training
Common Sense Puppy Training - Specializing in German Shepherd Dogs
Working as a small animal veterinary assistant
I became accustomed to seeing out of control pets with long nails, pulling their owners around.
Once I realized many dog training classes do not teach basic dog care, I vowed to change that.
Wright Dog Training will help you teach your puppy to accept restraint, teach basic commands,
& how to use a crate to facilitate potty training. You’ll learn how to trim nails, clean ears, give pills,
and learn how to observe your puppy to read his body language & his signals for help.
We’ll discuss big topics like diets, health concerns & neutering.
As well as the little things like leash, collar, & crate selection.
Classes are by appointment, one-on-one, in your home,
garage, outside (weather permitting!), or in dog-friendly local businesses.
Lessons will be hands on, with plenty of guidance, & generous positive support.
You choose the pace, once a week? Twice a week?
As classes are private, you pick the day & time that works best with your busy schedule.
We can even repeat lessons!
Not confident you’ve got pilling? Need to change our appointment time? Easy-peasy!

One-on-One In-Home Training Sessions
Training is a way of developing our ability to communicate with our dogs. - Suzanne Clothier

Pre-Puppy
Ideal for the first time puppy buyer- owner, first time GSD owner.
One might remember their wonderful childhood dog who knew to sit, come, & potty outside, but it's possible one does not remember, or was not involved, in the work involved to train those skills.
Wright Dog Training can provide puppy selection & preparation tips by text or email; thus providing a transcript of our discussion. Personalized to fit your chosen breed, your family, & lifestyle.

Crate & Potty Training
Easy-Peasy potty training with use of dog crates.
Potty training can be easy-ish, if one is consistent & uses a crate.
This is not your Grandpa's puppy, no need to rub puppy's nose in the mess, spank the puppy, or cover the house with newspapers!
If needed, a follow-up text or email is included to help determine why puppy potties in crate or home.
Hint: the crate's too big &/or he's not being monitored!
Tip: Start looking for crates at resale shops before you start to look for the puppy! Crates in great condition are often donated
& the price is less than half of new crate prices!
Tip: You should have at least 2 crates, 1 puppy size, & 1 adult size.

Puppy 101
As lessons take place in your home, there's no need to
wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated to begin.
Any age past 8 weeks is fine.
It's important to lay the foundation for a well-mannered dog
while the dog is a young puppy. Keep in mind that your puppy has only been in this world for 9, 10, 12 weeks and knows
nothing of our customs and expectations. Puppies are blank slates waiting for our instruction. Wright Dog Training believes good dogs start as good puppies. Work with your puppy frequently, in short sessions, & always 'train' on a positive note.
Wright Dog Training will help you prepare your puppy for
future vet visits and procedures, ready him for nail trims,
ear cleaning, pilling, blood draws, & basic grooming.
You will learn to read your puppy's body language, & learn
to be an advocate for his well-being.
2 sessions in your home, approximately 1 hour each.
1 follow-up text or email.

Sit Down Come
Wright Dog Training will help you teach your puppy to do the basic house-dog commands, sit, down, & come.
Sit, down & come are 3 critical skills every dog must learn to be a well-behaved, furry, family member. As lessons take place in your home, there's no need to wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated. Lessons are suitable for any puppy or dog, age 8 weeks plus.
Building on the handling basics from Puppy 101, you will teach your puppy to 'sit', to 'down' (or 'lie down') & 'come'. These sessions are also available for puppies without Puppy 101 training. 3 sessions, approximately an hour each. Sessions may be a week apart, or 3 days apart. YOU set the schedule.
Preferred supplies: 4-6 foot leather leash 1/4"-3/8" inch wide,
a simple choke collar with smaller links, or flat collar, a hungry puppy & really tasty treats.

One-on-One In-Home Training Sessions
I can train any dog in 5 minutes. It's training the owner that takes longer. - Barbara Woodhouse

Owner 101
Nail trimming, ear cleaning, & pilling - 3 skills owners should know.
Building on the basics from Puppy 101, Wright Dog Training will help you learn to trim your puppy's nails, clean his ears, & pop a pill down his throat!
The thought of trimming nails gives many people anxiety, which their dog picks up on, and can develop into an unpleasant experience. Learn how to prevent bad ears with regular care.
Hiding pills in food just doesn't work. Like nail trimming, pilling requires an air of confidence. Once you learn the technique, you'll never buy liverwurst again.
This class is broken up into one long session and 3 short ones. First session is approximately an hour, with 30 minute progress checks every other week.
Preferred supplies: Millers Forge Pet Nail Clipper (red handles), Kwik Stop, Q-Tips, cotton balls, witch hazel, & reallllllly tasty treats.
